Introduction:
This project is intended to introduce students to digital art and Adobe Photoshop without actually using digital technologies. The class will begin by giving a brief introduction to Photoshop. The students will learn about Photoshop’s history, background, and will be shown examples of artist that utilize Photoshop with their work.
Introduction Questions
Where is your sense of place?
How does it make you feel?
What mood comes to mind when you think of your sense of place?
The students will then be shown the example project.
How does this project shape meaning?
What mood does using a silhouette in this work create?
What is the sense of place depicted?
Directions:
1. Students will gather photos from magazines, home and/or digital images.
2. They will cut out images they plan to incorporate into their piece.
3. They will create a plan of their background scene by combining multiple images together.
4. Once plan is created they will glue images onto a sheet of plan paper.
5. Next, the students will find an image of a person, object, or animal they wish to become the silhouette in their piece.
6. They will cut the image out so it is just the shape of person, object, or animal.
7. Once object is cut out, they will choose a single color and transform the picture into a silhouette.
8. They will then place the picture into the background collage were it fits properly in proportion to the rest of the background.
9. Once everything is glued down they students may draw or paint into the picture to create different effects.
10. When everything is finished students will place project wall or racks and clean up their materials.
Closure:
Begin your self-reflection
Time Budget: One Week
Day One: Introduction
Day Two: Search for images
Day Three and Four: Production of piece
Day Five: 15 minutes- finishing touches
30 minutes- Class critique
Vocabulary:
Superimpose: place or lay (one thing) over another, typically so that both are still evident.
Composition: Is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art.

Color Scheme: an arrangement or combination of colors used in a design.
Silhouette: A representation of someone or something showing the shape an outline only.
Critique/Evaluation/Assessment:
When all projects are completed there will be a class critique, and all students will present their projects to the class. They will also have to write a one page reflection on their work.
Questions:
What are you depicting in this piece?
What is your sense of place?
What meaning are you shaping?
What mood did you create within your piece?
Do you think you successfully complete the project?
